XXXI Days of Poetry (MMXII) - Day IX
For they have not yet forgotten how
(guest poet Saralyn Marshall)
Children dream in color,
for they have not yet forgotten how,
as they will when they become adults.
They will forget
how to dream,
and imagine,
once they become
old enough to
make all their own choices.
They will eat things that will
make them fat and sick,
and drink poison,
and work on things
that make them unhappy,
and completely forget how to make friends.
Why are we so anxious
for them
to grow into
us?
